When you think about it, winning all the time isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, constantly winning can be a symptom of a much bigger problem.<\/p>\n
There are two easy ways to guarantee victory:<\/p>\n
1. Never try anything new.<\/p>\n

2. Never try anything difficult.<\/p>\n
\n
Follow those two rules and you can rack up an impressive winning streak without ever getting any better at anything.<\/p>\n
It’s like playing tic-tac-toe against a five-year-old, riding a bicycle with training wheels for the rest of your life, or playing a video game on the easiest level with unlimited lives.<\/p>\n
Congratulations! You’re undefeated! You’re also going nowhere.<\/p>\n
The same thing happens in copywriting. Nobody who seriously commits to writing copy wins every time, and I’d be suspicious of anyone who claims otherwise.<\/p>\n
The best copywriters aren’t successful because they’ve discovered some magical way to avoid losing. They’re successful because they’ve developed the skills that dramatically improve their odds of winning.<\/p>\n
And developing those skills means tackling difficult assignments, experimenting with unfamiliar approaches, and occasionally getting your teeth kicked in by the marketplace.<\/p>\n
Of course, losing doesn’t automatically make you better. You have to learn something from the experience.<\/p>\n
But if you’re winning every single time, you might want to ask yourself an uncomfortable question:<\/p>\n
